Dumerils Gestation?

ukborneoguy Jun 26, 2005 12:02 PM

My female Dumerils Boa has now been gone for 120 days since the POS shed and im wondering when its going to happen. She is very fat past about 2/3rds of her length and im sure it cant be mich longer. I know Common Boas are more reliable with 100-110 days being normal and i am going away for 5 days next week so i dont want to risk missing the birth. Last year I had a smaller older female go until mid September although because I didnt know she was gravid i didnt count the days.
Any Ideas if it will be much longer?

Could be anytime between a month and 2 months from now. Or who knows more. Many variables involved... the most important being mean gestation temperature and origin of original stock.

Has she has any other sheds since the POS that you witnessed?

At 120 days, she's 4 months into it. My girls have had a shed around this time that did not preclude birth, maybe a mid-gestation shed. But I wouldn't put much stock in that as it is currently a theory limited to my collection. If she begins to shed, I would prepare for babies.

When did you take the picture that you just posted? I remember seeing her a few months back... she was huge then!

The Pic is of her ovulation in Feb. She had a mid-gestation shed in May. I read all the posts below but it is difficult to conclude due to a variety of different lengths many keepers have noted. She is 5yrs old and this is her first attempt. I wouldnt expect her to go for more than 145 days but anything is possible.

Now I had no intentions of giving you a hard time matt until once again below you took the liberty to make more snide remarks about about my animals with your "lets have a debate about temp and color variaton in dumerils" or whatever you said, which I have no doubt was again directed at my animals that you have on many occasions in the past taken liberty of insulting, also Pauls animals. Now after youve insulted mine all the sudden when Bill gets the same results I have, its now genetic or is it only his are?. Funny how that works out

The temp thing was nonsense I made up to make a point of your inexperiance

First keep in mind snakes and gravid boas self regulate temp
What happens to a boa(or any reptile for that matter) in a cage that is over heated, gravid or not? If the temp is to hot and they cant cool off they pace, burn fat reserves, it kicks there system into overdrive they stress, weakens their immune etc etc all that was in the 101 class

Now Paul says dumerils gestation 3 months you say 5or 6 I say 7-9(which if youve been around long enough to know what book, us old timers refer to as the "bible" it says the same thing) but for the sake of this well just say 4 months, fair? What do you think is going to happen to a gravid female boa after 4 months of stress due to being overheated? if you guessed complications you are correct

Through evolution eggs have a tolorence because they are exposed to the eliments. Granted mom will lay them in the best conditions she can find, but she cant control the weather so they have a tolorence to some extremes. Boas do not thats why you wind up with kinks and aberancies or stills etc because its moms job to maintain consitant body temp through the extremes, so if you overheat a gravid female your going to run into problems

Just a word of advice Matt, you dont have to prove yourself by dissproving EVERYONE else, which is what you have been trying to do, Paul doesnt hardly get on here anymore and neither do I because we both got tired of you, instead of asking questions, trying to learn something and if you see something differant saying "hey wouldnt this make more sense" you antoginize and try to dissprove the years that Paul and I have into this and one day say one thing and the next day the total oppisite, our combined years are probally more then your age, and Im not saying everthing weve found is 100% correct, Paul and I dont agree on many things, but I know he feels the same and I am not going to keep coming back when its always a headache because someone who plays both sides of the fence is determined to dissprove the things Ive learned throughout the years. Im not going to sit here and copy and paste but youve done it enough times that anyone thats followed these forums knows what Im talking about one day you say one thing and next day the total oppisite, so I guess in a sense your never wrong, no differant then the dumerils X ground boa crosses you kept saying that Paul; has and hes done DNA hardcore research on this

you want to learn and have drive and thats great but knock it off with the jabs your not going to make very many frineds with experianced people goijng about things the way you do, When I first got on these forums the barkers, clark and a bunch of the other "big names" were regualrs, they left for the same reasons, Im not trying to compare myself to them or put myself on their level because im not Im just a guy with a passion for this species and im sure clark will produce more this year alone then I ever will in my life, Im sorry I had to make a point out of it again, I hold no ill will towards you but that doesnt mean I have to forget what been done to me either and once again I didnt apreciate your snide remark directed at my animals,

after you started your nonsense the first time then emailed me with your "I want to bury the hatchet and buy that animal from you" I told a cou-ple friends and they told me you were trouble and not to sell you the animal, I thought you were guinuine and said "na he made a mistake its cool" well they were right as soon as you got what you wanted out of me you started your crap again, now Bill has the same results as I and his is genetic but you accused me of missrepresnting the animal and you told me in email "im not going to watch you take advatage of people like that, but now you have a normal dumerils your labeling as a pastel and a while back I remeber a hypo to,
Its great that you are proud of your animals but stop trying to make them into something they are not, if you would see the animals in person that I have given special names to namely the arancio and hypo you would 100% understand the differance and be able to see without a doubt why they are in their own league

How many dumerils have you honestly seen in person? Id guess not many? one thing you need to keep in mind ios pics are missleading all the judgments/ insults etc towards my animals are based on the little bite of info youve read and the poor pics that I have posted, you really have NO CLUE as to what is going on here with the Arancio phase or between Paul and I with the hypos, if you know anyone close to jermy stone or any of those guys, make a list of questions ask the close frined then ask Jermy I gaurentee youll learn more from the freind then Jermy, same as if one of my close friends was to tell you what I have going on here, I dont post it because I dont want every tom dick and harry knowing what is here and what is going on here, its my buisness and mine alone, Thats the way this thing works so keep that in mind next time before you go off on a rant or make snide comments about someones animals when you have less then 1/3rd of the story and really have no idea what we are talking about because the pics dont carry the true coloraton and differances there between to normal animals

I honestly thought youd pick up on the temp thing and you did, you just ran the wrong direction with it, as I said I hold no ill will towards you, you have the drive and if you can learn to knock the garbage off youll go far but other wise youll burn out sooner or later, Im by no means perfect and from experiance can tell you youll learn more and get alot more respect with a attitude adjustemnt, I offer this advice because I love the species and would love to see more work/research done with them`. Ive tried to tell you all this before but you contued with the garbage so I hope this gets the point through, you just grabbed it and ran with it and it was nonsense, get the basis and put the peices togther you dont have to try and rip everyonelses thoeries/work apart when you really havnt gotten the basics down yourself, take care

We should both try to grow up a bit and move on from these bitter disagreements. For the betterment of this forum and its users, this will be the last time I will address this from a personal standpoint. Sticking to topics of husbandry or other related Dumerils issues would make this a great place for everyone to learn.
Sincerely-
