feeding new day old treefrogs??

cpluvsbxrs Jun 26, 2005 01:27 PM

I got some tadpoles for my son to raise, i was thinking that they would be toads but turns out that they are some type of treefrog..im thinking gree tree frogs. So I seperated the frogs from the tadpole but i don't know what to feed them!! I caught some tiny ants but they are escaping and the frogs haven't been interested in them. Need some advise. Just don't want to let them go outside...
thank you,
Carol'lynne

ants are not too good frogs from what i hear.but if you have a plant called a hosta on the top of it will be little whites spots.these are called aphids.take a cricket keep and tap the plant over the top of it and the frogs will love them.good luck

Aphids would be good, just make sure that the plant you get them from has absolutley NO chemicals sprayed on it that season.

you can also find aphids on Honeysuckle, most roses, oak trees, and many many more

Pinhead crickets would also be a good starter food. most petstores will have them.

I keep tadpoles every spring and then let them go after they become frogs, so I can help you. For the first few days of frogdom, your treefroglets won't eat. After 2-4 days, they should be eating, or you should let them go. Aphids are good, same with pinhead crickets. YOu can also have your son go around collecting tiny bugs until the frogs are big enough to handle small crickets. It's really fun to see froglets eat their very first bug. Good luck!

I have no idea what's going on. It's more fun that way.
