Melamine Enclosures

dragonfruit_85 Jun 26, 2005 07:19 PM

For those of you who chose Melamine as the wood for your enclosure, how does it hold up against humidity? I need to build a bigger cage for my tegu, although he probably won't grow much more, so I am looking at building materials and thought Melamine would work well. Is there a better way to do this? I looked through old posts and did not find quite what I was looking for. Thanks for any and all responses!

Beth, take a look through the "cage and habitat design" forum here on kingsnake. There's just gobs of info on melamine and various other materials to use for cage building. You'll find your answers there for sure.

I've heard of people using PVC planks and other types of plastic. This may be a better option than melamine. I'm in Las Vegas holding a humidity of anywhere between 30%-60%. I used melamine around the cage and it has swelled and reshaped enough to where the coating is all bubbled and mishapened and doesn't have the quality appearance I had hoped for.
