Do livebearers like a retreat to bear the young similar in set-up to a laying box for egg-bearers?

Most garters I have seen crawl all around the tank when giving birth.

The one wild caught Garter I maintained last year had no problem surprising me when it gave birth right in the middle of the enclosure
