Herping down here can be quite difficult. It has rained here very day since we have been here, hence THE RAINY SEASON! I thought snakes would be moving a lot more than usual but so far, this has not been the case. All I have found so far are the following (snakes only!).
one green headed tree snake,
one rat snake (I still need to identify),
one female boa constrictor about three feet long.
This has been several hours of herping in canoe going down the Macal river. We are presntly in Dangriga on the coast of Belize and will be heading into the Southern region of the Toledo district, near the Guatemalan border, which has many herps such as jumping vipers, eyelash vipers, corals, Fer-de-lance, boas, and many many more. The permits will not fly this trip and I will explain why on my weekly updates on snakeworld.com in the next couple of weeks. Until then, happy herping as it seems June alterna hunting is continuing to be a success for many of you. Congrats to Steve Wit and his son. This will probably be my only post before we return to Houston.
