more about hatchlings

sketch Jun 27, 2005 08:32 AM

Thanks for the replies regarding my yearling Florida Box Turtles. I will contact the organization redifrog reccommended. I had previously emailed my local herp society, the FL wildlife commission, Turtle Homes and a nearby reptile refuge and never received a response. This is the only place I've received any feedback at all. The yearlings are very social and do seem to recognize me specifically for the food association. As much as I wish they could be released, I realize why it is inadvisable. They have been raised indoors and never had contact with their parents.

I am incubating 5 new eggs and should these hatch, I would like try releasing them early as previously reccomended. Hopefully I can find a suitable location in a county where a wooded acre is as scarce as the turtles themselves.

I wasn't aware until this post that you were referring to Florida Boxies. If they are T.c. bauri; there is a much closer refuge for bauri boxies than the initial one, I initially gave you

If you don't get results there... contact me via clicking on my username for a personal email sent to me. I'll directly put you in touch with someone; either connected to the Univ. of South Florida Research Program, or a smaller reptile refuge in Fort Pierce, Florida. They have about 900 Florida Boxies protected on Egmont Key.
