Harry and some other "Dark" Harlequins

AnthonyCaponetto Jun 27, 2005 03:14 PM

Dark Harleys were the cutting edge thing a few years ago and now it seems like people new to Cresteds don't appreciate them. They've come a long way in the last several years, though. Here's some of my adults, as well as some others.

BTW, these are just snapshots taken for my own records...these pictures are terrible, but I decided to post them anyway (obviously). lol

Harry
He's got a bit of a green look when colored up. He's also got "hair" (the yellow/white scales) EVERYWHERE...on his thighs, "knees and shins", head, back, etc.

He even has hairy ___s

Stripes.
He's actually a full pinstripe with a nearly solid cream back, fully side striped and has the crowned trait too. His sides can get dark (nearly black) at times, but more often than not, he's colored like this...

Wild Child
This girl has the same exact color scheme as Stripes (although she does darken up a little more often), but without the side striping or full pinstripe. She got her name because she was crazy as a hatchling. Whenever I opened the tub she was in, I could count on her darting out within five seconds. She was easily the most agile baby I've ever seen. She also likes to bite now. lol

I think these pictures are GREAT! I love the "hairy" ones & the "crowned" ones; the more exaggerated the crests and fringes, the better I like them! Are those traits ever evident in young geckos? What do you call the pattern on Wild Child's sides? It looks like grey frosting trying to run down over a pale cake.

5:10:7 crested geckos: Bear, Goldfish, Kermit, Brimstone, WildSpatter-Spots-to-Spare, Big Red, Olive, Smudge, Belle, Brilliant, Tina, Brick, Toni, Beauty, Shine, Randi(y), Squeak, Bling, SqueakII, and 3 as-yet-unnamed beauties from Randy May (maybe Stripe, Redhead and Speckles).

Thanks, Terri.

I'm a sucker for the structural traits too. They're pretty much being worked into every project I have.

The crazy looking crests and even the crowned trait are just barely evident (at best) in babies. If you're looking for them, you can kind of tell, but it takes a really trained eye to be able to pick them out and it really helps to know who the parents are. I'll actually be posting a few of Harry's babies on my site in the next several days, so you'll see what I mean. The crests on the head aren't necessarily big, but they are somewhat irregular. As the geckos themselves grow, the crests will grow too.

Wild Child is just a black & orange/cream Harlequin with a really symetrical pattern on the sides and a heavy pattern on the limbs.

When you post any of Harry's offspring, will you mention him for those of us into those wonderful crests so that we don't miss them? And I'm with FlamedCrestie: Terrible pictures, my A$$! Your shots are always magnificent!

I have the crown trait coming out in about 80% of my babies though only on female in my colony actually has the trait.
