Reeves county animal added...

Joe Forks Jun 27, 2005 06:58 PM

I found this snake last August in eastern Reeves county, the cuts on I10, south side of the highway. Oddly enough it was the only live snake seen on a week long family vacation through three states and was found on the last night of the trip. I parked along the interstate and walked about 10 or 15 minutes and found it crawling through the grass at the base of the cut a few minutes before 10PM.

I have thought about hitting Culberson for years. Nobody seems
to hit that area much. The 3 days on the river where we saw NOBODY were some of the BEST 3 days of hunting ever. I love being in a place where you are the lone ranger.

Thanks again for all the updates.

I have spent a lot more time hunting culberson county than val verde or crockett counties. Result - two VV alterna and three crockett county alterna and NO culbersons. I also know of two other people who have logged some miles there and they have had similar luck.

I do like hunting in that county since it is REAL quiet, but frankly if you want to find alterna, there are better quite places to hunt, IMHO.

The only 2 Culberson alterna I know about are the one that Toby Hibbitts found while walking on private land and the other one is one that was claimed to be found at almost 8000ft on Guadalupe peak (in UTEP collection, I believe).

I remember the "guess the only live snake I found" game from that trip. Very nice animal! I'm still searching for my first. You finding one in August at least lets me know alterna season doesn't end in July...
