Strange bumps on CH snakes?????

fpartswarehouse Jun 27, 2005 09:03 PM

Hello,

Forgive me if this question has been posted before. I have a couple of my CH 05 balls with strage bumps under their skin (apparantly) I have one snake in particular that has over a dozen of them. They seem to be a blister of some sort, my buddy said maybe they had gotten too wet as some point? They were supposedly treated for parasites before I got them and only are apparant on the much smaller (tough to eat) snakes. Anyone seen this????

THanks so much for your help!!

The bumbs should shed out in a couple of sheds. Make sure you don't keep them too damp.

One of mine showed the same thing. A local store owner and breeder said that he has seen the same thing a couple of times and they spread around affecting others. The local herp vet also said that he had seen them before but he couldn't find any information on them or how to treat them. Mine kept getting worse and worse so I euthenized it. It came up negative for parasites and bacterial infections and no one could tell me what to do. Rather than letting this mysterious disease potentially affect all of my animals I chose to sacrifice one animal for the good of the rest. Many people out there may disagree with what I did, but I have worked in Zoo's for many years and as a trained bioligist this was the decision I came to.

I have seen a few import CH babies with this...Most die once it goes to far however in my experience this process has saved a couple. First soaking them for 12 hours then put hem with no water bowl in a dry cage with paper towel in it for a day. Then get them to eat. If they do not eat they die..If they do eat it's 50/50 shot and each time they eat the animals should get better.
My opinion on why it happens is that it's to wet and their may be feces on the snakes making the bumps swell up with fluid. So soaking them should hydrate and clense them, if they get dehydrated after the soaking then soak them again. Unfortuanlty in many cases they die. The infection gets to much for them so you have two choices.. try to get him better or euthanize... Hope this helps...
