# of Rodents for # of snake ratio...

Doug89 Jun 27, 2005 10:16 PM

How many breeding pairs of mice/rats should you have for a certain amount of snakes? Is there a ratio to it? For example if you had 20 snakes how many breeding pairs of mice would you need? Just wondering, im planning on owning a lot of snakes someday and would rather breed than spend alot of money buying them.

I don't know if there is some ratio or not. I tend to go by feel with mine. Thinking right now....I have way more rodents than snakes and I sell off the extra to help pay for this sick hobby of mine.
Right this second I am down to 9 groups of mice ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 and I have 5 groups of rats with a 1.3 to 1.4 setup. I have tons of extra for my 35 snakes, beardie that gets a pink now and then, three monitors that get whatever....they eat anything and everything! and two ferrets that get a couple rodents a day. (so much for simplifying life)
I think the issue would be whether or not they are all eating the same thing, same size etc. I find raising my own great when starting babies and needing pinkies. I also have desert dwarf hams, got rid of the russians and the syrian biters and have a friend who has gerbils if the need arises.
