Tegu wont eat fruit

cammyleon Jun 28, 2005 09:32 AM

I recently bought an argentine black and white tegu and it is about 4-5 weeks old. I feed it live crickets and it loves them, but I tried to feed it some blue berries and strawberries cut up with some ground turkey on the side. It wont eat the fruits at all. I would like to see it eat more of a variety, will it start eating more of these things when it gets older or should I try something different?

try mangos and bananas. they like those. or you can mix it with the turkey. but they dont really like the fruit until they are about a year is when they really start to accept it.

Also try kiwi, I couldn't get mine to actually eat kiwi until he was about a year old, but he did enjoy licking it when he was younger and I think the early introduction to it at least helped him to accept it later. Also, whenever introducing something new it is always good to mix it with something they already like. Mine wouldn't eat mice at first but he loved ground turkey, so i had to start him on "mice in a blanket" before he would eat them alone.

try mixing a little raw egg in with the fruit... that worked well for mine.
