Iguana Skin Problem - HELP!

c&f Jun 28, 2005 11:33 AM

Hi,

This morning, when we went to remove our 3 year old Ig, Geronimo, from his enclosure for free time, we noticed a raised area and a drop of blood on his shoulder. We examined it, and determined that there might be a skin infection, so we called the vet and left a message for an appointment.

In the meantime, Geronimo got on the kitchen counter. When my husband picked him up, Geronimo fought and the whole area burst open! I've attached a pic. Now we're extremely worried - has anyone seen anything like this before?

Whatever it is, it moves fast, a couple of days ago, it looked like the area was about to shed, now it looks like a bad infection!

He's going to the vet as soon as possible, but Geronimo is extremely hard to handle. We adopted him from a couple that never handled him - he HATES to be handled.

ANy advice? We're trying to get an emergency visit with the vet, but I'm worried sick...

Peace,
Christine

It is possibly fungus. Infections usually turn into a puffy abcess. Your vet will be able to properly identify and treat the problem.
