I know this might be a longshot but........

does anyone happen to have any pics of possibly a greenhouse enclosure? I am trying to design a greenhouse type enclosure for my alligators as adults and would like to get some ideas. If anyone has any croc enclosure pics at all as a matter of fact that would be awesome.

Like I said, I know it's a longshot, but still possible. Any ideas or info on building a VERY STURDY greenhouse would be fantastic.

Best Wishes,

Chris

I wpouldnt trust a greenhouse to contain a croc of anysize due to the wall construction being a plastic . if you do it i would go up the walls atleast 3 ft with a marine grade 3/4" plywood just in the event a gator ever does a tail whip he doesnt shatter the walls of the greenhouse and become a yard pet lol

Hi,

I dont necessarily mean an actual greenhouse. I would like to build a structure that emulates a greenhouse to a point, but will be much more sturdy. I definitely know that standard greenhouses couldnt contain and adult gator/croc. I am just hoping to possibly get some information on possibly a wooden greenhouse structure or something along those lines. It will have to perform the same function as a greenhouse, but will be much more sturdy than the standard greenhouses.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

hi Chris...

maybe you could built a wod structure, and just use plexiglass for the top...

wood keeps the heat very well, and you can use the green house plexiglas (the one that has air in the middle of 2 sheets), so it allow the sun to heat the air inside...

it could be something like my indoor enclosure, but with wood instead of a pool, and ofcourse a lot bigger

hope can help

Hey Rick,

I thought about that. I am not quite sure how well plexi glass will hold up during the winter time and how durable it is. But that is something I will certainly look into. As I am sure you well know, I am still designing my adult enclosure. I dont want to take guesses about how to get this working. I want to know EXACTLY what I am doing, so it will be done right the first time around.

I know you usually have some good idea's, so do you have any other suggestions?

Best Wishes,

Chris

Where do you live? I dont keep crocs or gators but i live in florida and the Army ranger camp here has a few. They only have a big caged in area with a large pool for them. i dont know if the pool is heated but in the winter they say the gator never come up out of the bottom of the pool but in the summer they are active and basking all the time. As far as a green house enclosure you coul use wood, and insulate it to keep heat in, and have green house type top to heat it up.

do you actually mess with the gators or just look at them?

I live in Ohio so it is much colder here. It would have to have something insulated and stable to prevent breaking out. I almost wish I did live in Florida because it would make this MUCH easier.

I work with my alligators. I believe that a little human interaction makes them more tolerant and easier to work with during the times that I ABSOLUTELY MUST handle them.
