I need some help about feeding baby bearded dragons

jon13 Jun 28, 2005 02:55 PM

I am about to have a bunch of bearded dragon eggs hatch and I need to find a better way to feed them. What is the cheapest way to feed them? Should I buy the food from a place like grooms... Or should I try to breed some insects and if so what kind should I breed

if they are about to hatch, you don't have time to breed insects. I'd buy a box of crickets if i were you. I get a box of 2,000 1/4 inch crickets the day the first beardie comes out of the shell. Because, as you may know (or not) newly hatched babies don't eat for the first couple of days. That allows time for shipping. I get my crix at www.nyworms.com. they have a great deal right now.....$25.99 for a box of 2,000 shipped to your door! as the crickets grow, so do the beardies, so it all works for me.

btw...my second clutch is hatching....woo hoo!

mail ordering crickets in bulk is the best way to go to ensure y ou have enough 1/8" to 1/4" crickets for your hungry babies. Expect each baby dragon to eat anywhere between 40-100 crickets a day, spread over three feedings. Also make sure you have mulitivitame and calcium d3 powders to dust the insects with. As mentioned you will have 1-3 day grace period from when teh baby hatches till when it needs to be fed. Best to have the crickets ordered around a week before the eggs are expected to hatch (more times than not, they will either hatch earlier or later, but better have crickets on hand anyway).

I've had a good experience with
www.wormman.com

around $17 for 1000 crix (that includes shipping)
they guarantee live delivery and that, i can attest to, because one time in the 95 degree heat of nj my worms arrived in poor condition and they rushed me a whole new shipment free. that's always a good thing to know when picking an online cricket farm.
