Eastern King traits...

MILTB Jun 28, 2005 03:04 PM

I have noticed lately that some Eastern Kings have a blunt rounded head and some others have almost a point to their snout, almost like a Pituophis, but not quite as pronounced. Has anyone else noticed this?? I wonder if this is a locale specific trait...maybe ones that dig more for turtle eggs, etc. I have one from South Carolina and this one has seems to have a more pointed snout. Any thoughts??

My Eastern has a "typical" head but my male Florida has the same issue. My female Florida has a "normal" shaped head but he male has a very pointed head not like any other Florida's I have seen. I im interested in what others have to say about this topic. I was thinking maybe my male had some california influence in it or something.

Ive seen various sized and shaped heads in the same locale or same vicinity. My NJ male and his soj have short noses and rounded heads. Their heads are really wide though and chunky looking. Thye mom who is a Burlington Co. as well as another Burl Co. fmelae thats unrelated have more elongated heads withg a squared off nose instead of rounded like the males. I think like people they just vary in head shape.

Here are a couple of round heads.
