Im wondering what might be going with him. He has doubled in size in the past month and has shed like 3 times. I am wondering if it is shed that has not been shed off. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Sounds like the same problem mine has. According to the helpful responses I have received it is caused by shedding. The circulation at the end of it's tail was probably cut off, and the end became brown/black, hard and brittle. I was told to use vegetable or baby oil on the area and soak in warm water. This should help it fall off or shed. I hope that makes sense. Good luck!
