How do you keep the algea down in your tanks??

rene Jun 28, 2005 03:46 PM

Every few weeks I take a scratch pad and just scrub down the inside of the tank but is there an easier way to control the algea? I see little spots now growing on my caimen. She never leaves the water. Would putting and algea eater in there work or would the caimen kill it? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Rene

I always felt algae was a good thing. It won't hurt the croc and it might help to break down waste. A lot of people don't like it for aesthetic reasons. The best way to deal with it is to just scrub it. If the tank is near a window you can move it. But the artificial lights will still allow it to grow. I think pleco or snails will just get eaten unless they are considerably bigger than the croc.
