I have a 4 year old male BCI who has been in my care for about 3 years. I noticed much more active behavior since I moved him into his new cage which is smaller than his previous cage (6ft long to 4ft long). The new cage also has much more accuarte and appropriate temperature and humidity so I figured the better conditions were the cause. Recently I just accuired a month old female BCI who is in a rubermade cage next to him. He has become much more active since her arrival as well as being much more jumpy when touched (easily startled) even when he is already out side of the cage and exploring or just with me. He seemes to be particularly sensitive from about a little over half way down his body to the end of his tail. Could the increased activity and jumpiness be due to hormones or smell of the new female. She is only a little over a month old so im pretty sure she is not producing ferimones (sp?) as she will not be sexually mature for another three years. Just wondering if anyone has had any experince with behavior like this. Asside from his jumpiness he is acting quite normal and even has an intensely increase feeding response. thanks for any replies.
