Not necessarily a little flux is ok, but a good gradient should be maintained

>>will a heat mat work?

what kind?

>>how much of the tank should the heat mat cover?

Depends on the mat

No. Some provide the same temps 24/7 while others provide day time temps and night time temps. I do the day/night temps.

Yes, but be careful. Many reptiles get nasty burns from things like heat mats and aquariums.

Enough for the snake to adequately heat itself. If the snake takes of 1/4 of the enclosure, the snake should be able to find that amount of heat.

how about a heat lamp?

i can use a heat light bulb right?cause i dont want to buy a cermeric(bulbs with no light only heat) or what ever its called for alot of money.

should i use a special type of bulb?

I would not recommend a heat lamp. Using them tends to cause humidity issues among other things. But they can be used. I just don't recommend them.
