GTP Defecation -- Regularity?

Bill S. Jun 28, 2005 08:34 PM

Hi.

Man, I haven't been to this forum in a couple of years. I hope you and your animals are all doing very well. If not, best wishes for better days!

My adult GTP is about 5 years old. For some time he or she will hangs the tail way down and wait day after day to defecate. Takes quite a long time for that to happen. Every day I see that bulging colon, but at the end of the day no cigar. Then, it will finally happen, delivering a few large uric acid blocks and all the rest.

Sheds are fine. One piece every time.

Once in a while I'll handle the animal and rub down the entire last quarter of the body; that will usually get things moving.

But if I don't, most of the time the tail just hangs way down from the perch to the cage floor, day after day.

Is this just from lack of exercise or is there something that can be done to speed things along?

Thanks!

Bill

From everything I've read and seen posted, that's normal behavior for a GTP.
