Pastel & Normal Dumerils...

Biophiliacs Jun 28, 2005 09:38 PM

A little out of focus.. but represents the boas fairly. I had taken 20 pictures and these were the best I could get. This shot shows a bit of the pastel's body as well, so ignore the head. The next shot will be a head shot.

A little too much flash but there will be ample time for better pictures.

Thats just great so now all you gotta do is prove it one more time and I guess that will be a pretty good case for a new color morph.................but lets just be happy for a great looking group of babies............

Biophiliacs Jun 29, 2005 12:18 AM

In a sense, it has been proven twice now. Once in the 02', before I had fully appreaciated this variant and again this season. Both litters came from my original female but each time were bred to different males. I kept back two females from the 02' litter and unfortunately sold the rest at the shop- who knows were they are now.

I plan on breeding one of the 02' girls to an unrelated male, to see if the trait is inheritable similar to hypomelinism in boa constrictors(co-dom, dom, whatever). The other 02' female will be bred to a half brother out of this year's litter, to test the trait for a potential "super" variant. Those breedings will most likely take place in 07'.

If I had known that it would take seven years to completely prove this variant out, I would have bagged it long ago... Nahhh.

Below is one of the 02' females on top of a normal male for comparison.

if that thing is pastel then 95% of the ones I produce are pastel, its not its normal, you have what IMO is an ugly one next to a decent one nothing more, last thing in the world the dumerils need is a bunch of people, desperate to have something special running around giving them all kinds of crazy names like they do with the farmed BP's every year, the way some of thiose guys are naming every little dot on the snake is rediculous and what you have is a normal and your using the same tactics

This trait isn't like a lot of other boa variants, in which, they never look as good as they did when they were babies. The difference in color/pigment will become much more apparent as these reach maturity. I'll keep you posted.

I would like to address the monetary issue. I'm not really in a position now to offer these up for cash. Not until I am completely sure of the gene's transmition and the extent of its influence on pigment. None of these boas will be sold until I see results into the f2 generation.

As they say, patience is a virtue. I consider my Dumerils boas a "pet project". I have plenty of other boa constrictor morphs( and lots of other exotic breeding projects) that will pay the bills in the meantime.

In this business, reputation is everything. I would not ever sell someone a het or possible het on an unproven mutation. Breeders that do so aren't long for this world. As soon as their mutations are proven "fruitless", their dishonesty will be known industry wide... word spreads fast.

So, I understand your concern Jason. I would never misrepresent or sell anything, that I do not completely understand myself.

your miss representing it by calling it a pastel right now, honestly how many dumerils have you seen in person? please answer that. because if that animal is so special that you are going to run around and call it a pastel it cant be very many, put rosiane and Jen Hewitt next each other and of course Jen will look 10X's better then she actually is, now put Jen next to someone on her level and she doesnt look as outstanding as she did, same principal here with the dark well below average animal used for comparision, dont become a B.H. and do what he did with his farmed ball pythons, calling yellows pastels etc etc

Firstly, I feel very good about this project and making it into another one of these arguements is not the kind of thing that any of us needs right now. I appreciate you sticking up for me but I don't need any help with Jason. His opinions have become heavily leveraged to put anything I say in a negative light. Given my experience with exotics, my age is irrelevant... I have been raisng reptiles professionally for 15 years. As far as how many Dumerils I've seen, less than 200 in person but 1000's of online pictures. I know what I have here is something special and surrounding it with this BS is getting old. Just look at the 02's, they look more unique than anything I've seen in ANY picture, other than the albino Dumerils in Europe.

Jason, you are taking the DNA remark way out of context. I have not seen any of the proof of the DNA exidence either. Natural intergrades are known to occur in the wild between MGB and Dumerils, that was the extent of the comment.

I would like to point out that you have 2 unproven traits, the hypo and Arancio, that you tried to sell for $5000 and $10000 last season. As well as possible hets for $1000 a pair. In my photo gallery, someone stated that they had bought 66% het for Anery from you... whaa?

why dont you go ahead and put your ""pastel"" in a pic with the animal I sent you? The animal I sent you was by far better then that one atleast that would be a far comparison instead of some drab dark animal
now as far as anery the only 66% het I have ever sold in my life are colombians, as far as my poss het hypos my customer base is my buisness but when you see hypos listed on some of the top breeders in the nations sites youll understand as far as the mad ground boas it was alot more in depth then that, you thought you knew what you were talking about, we gave ya the rope to hang yourself and when you did it you dissapeared, if you really have been doing this for so long then I must say I am amazed at how fast you ran with the whole temp thing, a 15yr profesional vet would know better, but with that we will get back on topic

which is this so called pastel, why dont you stop with the deflection get that pic with the animal I sent you (no excuses please) and enlighten as to why this is any differant then the freak show with the farmed BP's? You have offered nothing as to why this is a pastel, both you and debear have only tried to drag this thing as far off into the abyss as you can, pastel please

Given that I trusted your judgement originally, I had planned to use him as a breeder. Labeled as a "High Contrast" Dumerils, after the shine wore off, I sold it. That boa was considerably darker than the brown saddled male posted above with the 02' Pastel. However, he is still in town here. I am not even sure why I am considering this as I doubt it will make any difference in your opinion. But I will contact the owners and once they can make it in, I will get some side-by-side photos for you. Just drop the rest of this garbage.

PS- The day I see a visual hypo from your line, I await with great enthusiasm.

thecaiman Jul 01, 2005 07:44 AM

Ya of course thats what I thought. Funny how what I have goes from being genetic to non genetic then Bills is genetic bla bla bla but for someone reason I still have emails from you trying to buy my non genetic morphs, humm go figure

Anyway back on topic I still dont see anything out of you describing why this normal dumerils is labaled as a pastel,

I would buy his male knowing nothing about the genetics of its transmition. I try to believe 90% of what I see and 10% of what I'm told... that boa is awesome.
