Squaretail Boa Pictures

norajohn Jun 28, 2005 10:30 PM

I imported a group of these 3 or 4 years ago from the original breeders in Germany. They are extremely beautiful boas and about as colorful as any boa I have ever seen. I believe Peter Kahl just produced a clutch and they seem to be a simple recessive gene. Peter is the first to reproduce these in the USA. Mine have proven to be very easy keepers with a very laid back attitude. You can't see it in the photos, but they sometimes seem to have a green iridescence in the tail pattern. The pictures are three different boas from my collection, so you can see some of the variation. Hope you enjoy the pictures. John Manser

Charles, I know the sq.tail would add color to the arabesque, but it would be quite a battle on the pattern! I really would like to see an albino sq.tail. I think with the color they tend to have, the albinos would be great!
I visited your old stomping grounds last Friday to see Dusty. Whats up with the restaurants closing at 7pm on a friday night (BBQ)? I thought I might starve! John

when the sun goes down? The mosquitos (the size of vultures) come out and people run scared...wait that's just me

Anyway... we'll have to hookup one of these days.. I've been on the road this entire month , but I'll be back around later this week.

It sure is hot down here!

NO BEAUTY LIKE THE BEAUTY OF A TRUE REDTAIL !!

ajfreptiles Jun 28, 2005 11:32 PM

Hey John, that last one is awesome! They do resemble the arabesques, any thoughts on why? How about regular ladder tails...are they from this line? By the way thanks again for the Het stripe line female! She is Gorgeous!! Thanks Andy Federico

Hi Andy, This type sq.tail is unrelated to other sq.tails. They originate from the Euro Pastel line. They do resemble arabesque boas, but are very clean and more colorful. They are not a co-dom either.
Glad you like the het stripe/albino female and hope she does well for you. John

Hi Eric, Mine should go this year. Pete might have a few babies now. Glad you like them. Thanks, John

I saw one advertised many moons ago and didn't have the funds for it. So, I purchased the closest thing I could get, a circle back ladder tail. She can not compare, but is nice in her own right...someday I will have one of those though....
But, until then:

those photos! You really just don't see enough Squaretails and it's such a shame because they are extremely beautiful boas! The ones you posted photos of show such a wide range of colors. Good luck to you this coming season. I hope you produce a BUNCH of babies so that we can see more of these guys!

Thanks,
Celia
