Oh Man... It's Been Ages!

IGUANA JOE Jun 28, 2005 11:09 PM

I haven't posted here in... 4 years?
I see only a couple of familiar names (Jiffy and Flavia, good to see you still post here!). I have been out of the hobby for a LONG time, school, moving, and 2 crazy wire-fox terriers!

Thinking about jumping back into it... who knows.
Too bad other 'veterans' here have gone.
Maybe I should start posting again uh? Clean the dust off my "Greem Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual" from Hatfield, find my notebook...

It will be weird writing all the lingo again: "SVL" and "TL" and talk about enclosures... lol...
Is this forum still called "The Sunshine Forum" ?
Hahaha

Anyways, c-ya 'round the forum!

JOE!! Great to see you! You've talked about getting another scaled monster for a few years now so maybe this time you're serious? I remember you were debating whether to get a Green or a Cyclura in the past. Have you made up your mind on a Green? If so, please consider adopting. I lurk here, don't have time to post much. It's still a whole lot nicer than the Monitor forum! LOL

I remember you! I don't know about the "sunshine" forum, but I remember you are a very sunny guy.

I'm not really an old-timer (3 years posting & occasionally lurking), but I found I didn't post as much after a the first year because I had gained confidence about iguana care, and my iguana's health was so much better than when I adopted him... But I know I can always count on the good folks here when something worrysome happens.

Good to see ya!

I know I know... last time I was really split 50/50 between a green and a cy'. But, school kept me busy (Masters Degree), we often had friends or family visiting, and now, a new dog (she's now almost 4 months old). As much as I adore iguanas, nothing beats a fox terrier!!! lol

There's a lot to consider before I get another one.
Traveling is one of them.
Then, while I'll be out to work (currently job-hunting), etc. It is not as simple as it sounds. And my family is not too fond of the green-scaly kind... tho my brother is the more tollerant.

We all actually want to move some time in the near future to a house with a bigger backyard. If so, I will have ample space to have a great out-doors enclosure, where the animal will roam in beautiful Florida sunshine all day long. The winters worry me (it can get quite cool at night) but that's easily fixed.

So there's a better chance for me to get another one once I am able to accomodate it outdoors. In-doors is out of the question.

The most convenient in ratio is the desert iguana, but as cute as they are, they are not enough "iguana" for me. Ye know? Like a chihuahua is not enough "dog". Ctenosauras... no way! Very cool, but too feisty. Cycluras have the drawback of needing lots of room below. Iguanas can have it all nice and tall (yet still big) and not give me too many worries. Plus, the enclosure itself will look better with tall plants etc. Still, few can beat the looks of a blue cayman iguana!

For now I'll still go on "iguana-free". I came close to getting a gecko once (leopard, and was tempted to get a leachie also), but I just can't stand insects. I hate them. How's that commercial gecko food? Anywho...

But I do want to get involved here again. I missed it.
Plus, when I will get another one, my mind will be refreshed.

Well then, glad to see some of you remembered me!
Laterz,

-IJ
