Is it just me, or is very hard to find sprcific looking snakes? b/c I have spent the last 2hrs trying to find a garter pic online similar to my Gopher was, but this one on the right was the closest I got...Gopher was just a little deeper of a green... I find this a little odd b/c every garter I have ever found in my area have been very close to her color. Is it normal for just a specific variation to be in your locale? Some of the pics I've found where approx 5hrs away. how to find out more of the variety in my are? because as much as I'd love to wander alongside creeks and through the woods looking for our little friends, i just dont have that kind of time.

and any other info on good places to find/puchase garters would be appreciated. I loved her look, so if I cant find any HA-doubt. I just might by one a few months down the road.

Sometimes it can be quite hard to find a picture of a specific snake. Particularly of variable species like garters.

Identification of Gopher is the first step, and I can't make a positive identification of the snakes in the picture. As you wrote that Gopher was wild caught in your area, we can make a first cut if you will give the state that you live in. Once we know the state, we can check a field guide and make a short list of all the types of garters that there. With luck, that list can quickly be reduced to one.
