You can use Microsoft Paint. There are many other applications that you can use (PhotoShop at www.adobe.com and Fireworks at www.macromedia.com - with both you can get a 30-trial).

If you use MS Paint you open the picture and then select Image on the Paint taskbar, then Strech/Skew change the size there and then resave the picture.

The easiest software I've used is Microsoft Digital Image Pro. It has a save feature called "Save as a Web Ready picture". After You click on this, it asks you if you want 1/4 screen, 1/2 screen, full screen, or custom. I use full screen. When you select the screen size, the software tells you the file size, and how long it will take to download with a 56K modem. Finally, when you do save the picture, the software automatically renames it from a name like mypicture.jpg, to Webmypicture.jpg. This prevents accidentally saving the low resolution picture over the high resolution original. Oh yeah, it's also a pretty good photo editing program too!

1200 x 800 is still too large. You have to remember that many people looking at these forums use a screen resolution of 800 x 600. Therefore, your pictures won't fit on the screen.

Have you tried right clicking on the picture file? Some iterations of XP allow you to resize the file directly from there.

Does anyone else here think that these scrolling signature lines are stupid?
