Please help identify this lizard!

knddrags Jul 14, 2003 08:59 PM

My father found this lizard in a warehouse in South Florida & I don't know what he is. He is about 14 inches long with a really long tail. He changes between green & brown color. He is a slow mover and seems to like the branch I put him on. He ate live crickets & Iguana food. His fingers are seperated and his eyes rotate individually like a chameleon.

I posted a picture. If anyone knows anything about this guy I'd appreciate help. He looks skinny and I don't know if he is malnourished.

Thanks,

Matt

Its slow because it is sick or emaciated they are normally very aggresive and fast. They were introduced to florida. They come from Cuba. The common name is the Kinght Anole or Cuban Knight ANole.

definateely anolis equestris. i am working on breeding them right now. if he is thin(which he looks) you may want to try giving him a pinkie mouse or hamster(or gerbil)to try to fatten him up a bit.also, take him to the vet. or if you dont think you can rehab him enuff(im not sure how experienced you are) i could take him off your hands, although im not sure where you are, unfortunately i am in pennsylvania. knights are usually farely aggressive and quick. he is obviously sick. well good luck.

i don't know what your experiance level is but they won't drink from a dish so use a spray bottle. you can spray on plant or side of cage. also look's dehydrated try a 50/50 gator aid mix with water. you may have to use a droper at first a trip to the vet maybe nessasary. chris

Thanks for the responses, I set him free and I felt very good about doing it. He was not meant to be in a cage.

I believe it a a knight anole (Anolis equestris). They are a large species and fairly difficult to keep.
