vibrating meal worm dish?

j_elmore44 Jun 29, 2005 12:15 PM

do these help or is it a bunch of hoo haa?

do leopard geckos like being with another one, like i have one female right now, would she do good if she had a "friend", i mean her tank is a 30 gallon so its plenty big.

do you have to take speciel steps for introducing another gecko?

sorry for all the questions, but thanx for answering them.

I cant speak for everyone because like people I suppose all Leos are different...

BUT

In my experience they just eat what moves... I can feed mine supers, crickets and then put mealies in a dish at the same feeding and they will go eat them too.. lol

Sometimes it can take a few minutes for one of my geckos to find it and by that time the other has it nearly cleaned out though, so I guess it would be different if you had a lot housed together and your feeding preferences. Until we had the second Strykes food "fell from the sky" so she would get excited when we removed her lid.. hehe Didnt matter what we threw in, she ate it if it moved. We did the same with Cricket, and now that they are together we just supervise the feedings to make sure nobody is hogging the food. So the long way to answer your question for me, it would be a waste of money.

You can put em together if you want, you want to be sure you have two females though, you aren't ready for eggs yet. (imo) Also be sure you have lots of seperate hides so they can get away from each other. But really, they don't care if they are housed alone. Its up to you.

I'm sure others have different opinions, but thats my two cents =-)

Don't just get another gecko just so the one you have now can have a "friend" because they won't really play with eachother. Theres not really a point to it other than saving space, but you always have to monitor them closly for fights and bullying. And Leolover forgot to mention that 2 males is a big no no, they will fight eachother. There have been cases where a male got stuck and other male came and ripped his bottom jaw off, it was quite gross. Just remember, your leo is fine alone and doesnt need a "friend"

Here's a related question. I have 2 full-grown females in a 30 gal. tank. BTW I introduced #2 about 3 months ago to the first one, whom I'd had for about a year. They get along fine.

If I were to introduce a male to see if they might breed, would he be able to stay in there indefinitely or would I need to get a separate enclosure for him after mating?

I have to say that YOU are your leos best friend. I have two females and a male, all of mine are housed seperatly. I have one female that hates my male and my other female seems to get along fine with my male but I made the mistake of letting my male and my first female live together for a few months and she picked on him to the point that he quit eating. I'd have another tank handy just incase the two females don't get along and I wouldn't leave a male in with the females for anything other than breeding. As far as the vibrating mealworm dish goes I feed mine out of a small dish which is just fine with them as long as they get food. Think about would you want to eat off of a vibrating plate? I know I wouldn't and it would probably make it a little more difficult for them to get the mealworms out of the dish.

A quote from Blueleo..."There have been cases where a male got stuck and other male came and ripped his bottom jaw off, it was quite gross."

Show me one documented case of this happening.... You cant because it never happend..... I do agree that two males should not be housed together {infact I think leos should only be ke[t together during breeding} but that statement is just rediculous....

Not only do they not have the jaw strength to do this, but they also do not have the weight behind them to do this....

About a year ago there was a thread about it on this forum with a picture. Either that or it was on fauna, i cant remember.

GreggMM Jun 29, 2005 09:46 PM

Thats funny.... I checked the archives from 2003 till current and found nothing on both sites to mentioned.....

BlueLeo Jun 29, 2005 09:48 PM

Where did you check that at? Farthest i can get back is may 27 2005.

BlueLeo Jun 29, 2005 09:53 PM

oic where it is, it must have taken you a very long time. over 22000 just front 2004. Do i smell some BS?

GreggMM Jun 29, 2005 09:56 PM

See, ya need to type in they key words as directed.... Pay attention....

If you type in leopard gecko jaw, you will get every post with the word leopard, gecko, and jaw..... But if you search like it tells you to, you can narrow it down considerably...
