veiledchamlver Jun 29, 2005 05:44 PM

and my backyard is a jungle. i read the other post a few weeks ago where the cham was lost and im gonna take advice from that but if anyone has any advice on where to start looking it would be greatly appreciated. I looked in every single bush in my yard and couldnt find him. he has 2 giant trees over 25 feet he could have climbed up but i climbed them and didnt see him. he also could have gotten over a bush that leads to my neighbors backyard. should i ask them if they wouldnt mind looking? please i need help.

this is not a good thing I recall some suggestions from the past is to think like a chameleon. He will likely go "up' and if you take a flashlight at night you may find him. Look for his light green sleeping color, start at the top of trees/shrubs and work your way down (get several people with several lights if possible. Was he in a cage? on a tree? If you know about where he was when he wandered off he will possibly be in a tree close by. If he was on the ground he might have traveled a longer disatance, so anything you can relate to where he was may help you, too.

Sure hope you find him!

That must have been my post that you read a few weeks ago! Dont panic, Id wait until night, when not only can you see his sleeping colors, but when He's not trying to escape your search! It took me 2 days to find mine, and Ive read that chameleons patrol their territory, so hopefully he hasnt gone too far! Good luck!

ok ill go out and look for him tonight. he was on his outdoor tree and i went inside for 5 minutes and came back out and he was gone. he has a big tree imafraid he climbed up. how would i get him down if he went up the tree because i can only climb so high before the branches are too skinny for me.

never, ever, never, ever, never....(OK, you get the idea)leave your cham alone for a second. Did you read the post about the guy whose cham got snatched by a bird as the guy looked on?
Also, a good idea to only allow him in a tree where you can reach, or climb, to any branch. But I guess after this you will know these things

If you have good neighbors and friends I am sure that with ladders and some help you will be able to get him down. If not, once you locate him set your alarm for about an hour before sunrise (that's if you can even sleep) and get out there with a big cup of silkworms or some other favorite food of his and hopefull he will come down. But maybe you will find him wihtin your reach - oK< it's getting dark - go get your flashlights! well, it's getting dark here - not sure where you live.

My guys have been outside for a few weeks now, and lo and behold my biggest male Sambava's cage was wide open went I was sprinting out the door to work on Monday. CURSES!!!!! I don't know what happened, but the door somehow got open. It was definitely shut and latched when I came home the barn when I sprayed the cages, but an hour later when I came out for work after showering etc inside, the cage door had swung open. I can only guess the spray of the water somehow undid the cage latch.

No luck so far. Mine is a big GREEN Sambava, and we have GIANT trees in our yard, with his cage along a ~100 ft row of privets. Needless to say, no luck so far

It is summer, and chameleons can easily live and even flourish in this weather. There are many stories of MIA chams turning up months later, so don't ever give up! Mine is so big and nasty I don't have to worry about the nieghborhood cats or any human sneaking up on him....he's a really aggressive chameleon!

Some advice: (1) call your local vets and put out a "lost chameleon" bulletin. People may spot the cham and not knowing who else to call, may call the closest vet. (2) take a spare mesh or wire cage and put in some big crix and put it near where your cham was last seen. With such great vision the cham may be able to spot "cricket movement" form a distance and be enticed over to something he recognizes as easy food.

Good luck, and don't give up! Tell all your neighbors. My favorite, albeit obvious, question from an innocent neighbor has been: "so what color exactly is your lizard?" (Sigh...)

Sorry, I know this is serious and I do hope you find your guy - but had to laugh at the "color" question

find them. I would not be able to sleep, it would drive me nuts knowing he's out there.

Dang I wish you both the best and hope this ends well for you and ya get your chameleons back.

I agree with lele, NEVER leave them for even a few seconds they can move quick when they want, or like she said a large bird, or other animal can grab them, in an instant.

let us know, our thoughts are with ya!
