Ball keeping / breeding / incubator question

biscuit71 Jun 29, 2005 09:57 PM

I am looking to get out of Boas, and into balls basically because of the space required to keep the larger boas. I am thinking of getting a Male Pastel, and some female normals for starters. Is that a good combo for someone just getting into them? As far as breeding goes... how many females can one male breed in one season without killing the little guy? (Guys DO have limits) and Lastly, what size incubator is needed to incububate possible eggs based on the Male / female ratio suggested? and and ALL replies greatly appreciated..

Nice dummerils, my cousin has one that tries to bite me everytime I pick it up...lol

any male co-dominant trait with a bunch of females is a good way to start. You will see your results much faster that way. Buy captive bred females and you will be glad you spent a little extra. males can handle around 6-10 females when they are adults. this of course varies on the particular male, some can handle more, some less. Plan on maybe half of your females laying for you in your first season with about 6 eggs per clutch. So if you get 10 females, plan on 30 eggs.

good luck
