jovy Jun 29, 2005 09:59 PM

some info, red tail about 22-26 inches, eatting small mice,

today i put my red tail in an empty 10 gal put in the white mouse, and put it in my closet so it could have some darkness, i wacthed the snake grab him and start to strangle him i left for 2-3 min when i came back he was still holding onto the mouse ,seemed dead, so i left him alone ,
I came to check on him about 3 hours later and i saw that he was rubbing his face on the bottom of the tank, as in trying to scrath himself,or trying to find away out, i then noticed there was blood on the bottom of the tank and his bottom lip is pushed up,

I know ,Iknow i shouldnt have fed live, AHHH,

What should i do? i have him in a tank with a hide and and a 25W reptile nitelite

Sounds like he got his lip hooked on to a tooth. I would take him to a vet, if your not expierenced in opening the mouth of a boa.

It's hard to picture exactly what it is you're seeing, but from the description it could be what was already mentioned. However, it could also be blood from the mouse... and the pushed in lip sometimes can happen from an aggressive strike, and it usually rights itself in a matter of hours.

Let him be for a few hours and see if the lip rights itself. If by morning you're still in the same predicament get him into the vet for a quick look.

Also, don't beat yourself up over this.... feeding live wasn't for sure the cause of this. We've all fed live at one time or another.. just try to get him onto frozen/thawed as soon as possible.

Good luck... and keep us posted.

Thanks every one for there quick responses,
i checked on him this morning and every thing is perfectly aligned, i checked to make sure he wasnt injured on another part of his body, nope hes not

i put him back in his normal living cage , figured that it would be a little less stressfull,

i need your guys/gals oppion on this i talked to a vet and he said that every thing should be alright,to make sure his has fresh de-chlorinated water(which he always has), he said to let him be for another 24hours in his cage, then to check inside his mouth, another thing he said that i should not feed him for 2 weeks, he said that hes seen some snake go thru a bad time then refuse to eat if you offer food to suddenly , What do you all think about this?

Again,Thanks every one for the help,

I think that he's gonna be just fine. I'm guessing what I described is more then likely what happened. I suggest you wait 7 days and offer him a fresh killed, appropriately sized, rodent. If he doesn't take the fresh killed.... wait another 7 days and try again. My guess is that he'll take the F/T the very first attempt.

Let us know...
