Just got me 2:2 angel island chucks...

norml32 Jun 29, 2005 11:48 PM

Also got 1:0 carrot tailed and 0:1 redback carrot tailed. It is going to take me till my bday to pay off (Sept) but was worth it. What cool looking lizards. One pair is very young...

Will take pics when I can get ahold of a digital cam.

By the way, PARAZAP killed 5 of snakes. They ulcerated in the stomach from it...be very careful with that stuff..the snakes it killed where all (but one) WC...so I am not sure WC animals can handle the ingrediants very well. I would use PANACUR...I will be dosing my normal chucks I just got with it as they WC once they settle in.

Confused by your post you say you just got 2.2 Angel Island Chuckwallas, but you in your post say you got a carrot tail chuck, and a red back? Red backs are somewhat common in the trade and are not carrot tials and will not have an orange tail. The orange tail you said was wild caught. These are illegal to capture and are protected. Only those who have retained these before the protection was put on them should be able to legally sell these. So I am a littel confused but happy for you. I hope someone is not capturing and selling these, or telling someone they are carrot tails and they are not. As far as the Parazap, my understanding is that the correct instruction should result in a good experience, but I will not be dogmatic either as there are plenty of meds that do a good job, I have a tendancy to lean towards anything that is natural as opposed to regular meds. CHeers!!!

Sorry for the confusion. Let me answer your questions:

1. I picked up 2:2 pairs of Angel Island chucks. Two very young, and two mid sized.

2. I also traded for 1 carrot tail and 1 redback female with a red tail. They were not sold to me, simply traded by a breeder.

3. Parzap is not that safe for WC animals. I had a biologist/chemist who specializes in reptile diseases analize my situation when the snakes died and he said the constituants of Parazap are not natural to the stomach flora of WC reptiles and it ulcered my animals stomches AT THE CORRECT DOSAGE...so extreme care needs to be taken when used..if used at all. After my experience, I wouldn't touch the stuff...

With respect to the red-back with a red-tail I'm still not sure about what you mean by this, thanks for clearing the others up, however the only chuck that has a reddish tail is the South MOuntian or Carrot tail. ONly the males display this characteristic, so if you have a red tailed chuck it is probably a male and not a female. UNless your refering to the top of the back where the legs are and the rest of the tail shoild be tan in color.........Thanks!!!

for over two years and NEVER had any problems with young or older lizards, wc or cb. NONE !

I know people on the bearded dragon forum that swear by it. And have used it since it first came out with no problems.

I like panacur, and now that its available, I use parazap as a preventative back up, once or twice during the year. But always have it on hand.

Sorry for your problems you encountered , don't know why, but have not heard this before, or experienced it.

I wonder if lizards stomachs are more tolerant...snakes can be notorious for their digestive issues.

As far as the chucks go...I am pretty certain I have a female with a red back and a bright orange tail...what can I tell you. She is fat and large and has the elongated head that my other CB female has...and the mentioned colors. Perhaps I am wrong...but she is shaped just as my other female. When I can get access to a cam I will photograph for you.

As far as how I got them, all I ment to say was they were given to me free, not sold to me, from a friend. I happened to get them at the same time as the Angel Island...sometimes it is not easy to be clear when posting info.

I am anything but an expert on Chucks. I have 1:1 CB from Deer Fern Farms that I bought at a show 3 years back. They are very easy to take care of and are doing smashingly well...though they have not breed for me yet (they were both young when I got them).
Strange animal to be into, considering that I live in Seattle...LOL.
