From Deano's post below re: meeting..

dryguy Jun 30, 2005 02:59 AM

How much fun would that be! Deano and Tony C are the only guys I've met and we could have talked for more hours than are available to anyone. Like 'bros from a different mother..Talked many hrs with "Oldherper" (GG)..Jeff S...DT..Dante..
Who would sign up to come?
Where?
When?
I would..
Chicago?
Fall?
All meet at a BIG herp show??
What a blast that would be...Serious considerations should made..

And yes, we are mostly "geezers" with a few exceptions it seems..

Count me in! It sure would be one incredible time. Is anyone going to the IHS in Phoenix later in July? I'll be going and giving two talks: Easter Indigos (of course!) and the Sedge Viper (Atheris nitschei). I would be willing to open up my wildlife center and host a meeting too: we've got plenty of room.

Rob
Your Wildlife center would be a great meeting place!!
Please let me know if there is anyway I could help make this "meeting" happen.
Perhaps it could take place in October when the Tinley park show is going.

I was thinking of the same time frame but the only challenge is that setting up our exhibit at Tinley (taking up 12 tables) is a huge undertaking and basically takes 2 days to prepare). But, I'd still be willing to make it work. Knowing how busy we all are, this could take a little doing but is possible. Mike, I'd like to talk to you some more about indigos as well. Rob

Excellent idea! I know this has been discussed in the past, but lets do what it takes to put the wheels into motion.
I know we have folks on both coasts and almost everywhere in between, so a central locale would be a good starting point.
Since Rob has been so generous as to offer his facility for such an event and it being somewhat centrally located, I believe the Wildlife Dicovery Center at Elawa Farm to be an excellent site to host such an event...

best regards,

It would be an awesome time, but I am on call every other weekend & usually take a trip to Southern IL to go herping one of the weekends in October. So, if I were to skip my herping trip we would HAVE to do a group herping outing while in Chicago to find some eastern milks, bulls & fox snakes!

What if we all met up in So. IL to camp/herp in Shawnee? Between Rob & I i'm sure we know plenty of places to find some cool stuff, including timbers, cotton mouths, copper heads, red milks etc.

These snakes are still out in October?

Eric East Jul 03, 2005 03:12 PM

I'm not sure what if any snakes are still active in Chicago during October, but I can assure you that mid Oct. is normally a very productive time in Southern Illinois.

If the rest of you are as nice as Dean I'd love to meet you. I might even shave my head (if mother nature doesn't beat me to it).
