is anyone breeding rough green snakes?

janome Jun 30, 2005 05:23 AM

my friend and i are interested in getting a rough green snake but everything i've read say they are mostly WC. is anyone breeding them and if so where can we find them?
i see them once in a while in pet stores. the last one i saw i asked the salesman about and he told me they were nocturnal. i believe they are diaurnal. it also had something wrong with the vent area. he told me 'it just tore a scale'. i don't think so.
i have 6 snakes so i know alittle about what they should look like down there.
i do see them at shows occasionally. are they WC as well? thanks anyone. oh, i live in arizona so if anynoe breeds them around here that would be great.

Most are WC, Just not to many ppl are intrested in them i have caught some gravid females and hatched the eggs but that is all, WCs make good pets just as well, but if you find them for sale there like 15 dollars but i have seen them 5 dollars lol, just depends.

so can you make a profit breeding them?

i would stay away from a wc rough green. you have the never ending potential problem of parasites and/or mites, and infesting all your other snakes. Anyway, besides that wc rough greens are hard to get eating... very few people actually breed them because of the fact that they are hard to breed in captivity and hard to get eating as babies. i would honestly look into something else.

True you will get some that eat like a champ and have no problems, but they are few and far between.
