Scuttlebutt close-up

el_toro Jun 30, 2005 03:28 PM

He doesn't hold still very often, so I'm glad to snap a quick picture once in a while when he does. He's just beginning to show hints of color on some of the scales on his cheeks, neck, and elbows. Can't wait to see how his color develops - it's hinting turquoise right now.

Very cool looking little guy. I'm hoping to get a pair myself soon. How old is he/she?

el_toro Jun 30, 2005 05:24 PM

He'll be a year old some undetermined time this summer.

nice pic...i think i see some color on his shoulder too.
do you take him outside at all? i'm wondering if it's true ornates color up more if natural sunlight is provided.

el_toro Jul 01, 2005 12:15 AM

He hasn't been outside since I got him - the weather has been very non-summer so far this year. I think it's likely they have the same color *potential* regardless of whether they see the sun, but the spectrum of the natural sun brings out the best in them. Just my feeling on the subject, but there ya go! I would love to make an outdoor stack of wire front cages, but that's a long way in the future for me.

oh, i forgot not everyone is blessed with the weather we have here in san diego. lol. and yeah, i guess if it's in the genes, then the color will show up as long as they're in good health.

why in the world would you want to leave SD for DC?

jeune18 Jul 02, 2005 10:47 AM

well i am an east coaster, grew up in south carolina so i am very far away from everyone i know. also i want to work for NGOs or non-profits in areas like development, women and development, education etc. in latin america and there are alot more jobs for that in DC. i have never lived anywhere as cold as DC so it will take me and the lizards some adapting. i may end up basking under their lights with them, ha ha

He is a beauty, and will only get more beautiful with age. I was reading the post further down about color and natural sunlight. I thought it would be great last year for my uros to get some sun. I went out and bought a 100 gallon reptarium and set it up with hides, part shade, part sun and thought it was just great. I went in to get a few uros and try it out...they were so freaked out that they never came out of the hides. I tried it for weeks with different ones to no avail. So much for thinking I could make their life better. LOL
