Heat Warning

gauchobry Jun 30, 2005 05:25 PM

Hey All,

Just had a scare with my crested, thought I might pass on a warning. Took my Crested to be seen at my job as a Science Lab teacher to middle schoolers today. No problems throughout the day, and I love letting the kids get a glimpse at my animals. Well, all was fine and dandy until the drive home. Hot south Texas sun really got too my poor crested and in the 10 minute drive it almost looked like he was not going to make it. He is fine now, but it was very scary. I am just wanted to throw out this warning to anyone traveling with their geckos in the summertime to make sure there is enough AC or insulation from the heat for our little critters. Just be careful with our awesome little gems.

i would definately ave to agree. you can't be too careful when it comes to the health of your animals. i had a similar situation occur but it was actually in the winter and keeping too warm on a car trip back from picking up the geckos. down by the foot vent to keep them warm, but way too warm apparently. now i have an infrared heat gun that i always take for situations like that.

That is exactly why I always get so upset to see cresteds for sale at Petco and PetSmart: They keep a heat lamp over their cages and the thermometer always reads 90F or 95F, and I cannot get anyone at those stores to even CARE that they are roasting them alive!
