I would put the big turtles in the bigger tank and the baby in the 20. I would then upgrade again after the baby starts to grow bigger. I would put the baby in the 55 and upgrade the adults to a bigger tank when the baby gets bigger. I am not sure that a 55 is big enough for two adult turtles but I could be wrong. I was told years ago that you need at least a 20 long for an adult painted and then add an extra 10 for each extra turtle but recently I have been told (I think) 10 gal per inch of turtle. So depending how big the adults are depends on if the tank will be big enough for them. So right now my adults are each in their own 20 longs and my two babies are in a 20 long together. They are getting upgraded to a bigger tank and then in a couple years to a pond in the yard for the warmer months.

The way I determine how big a tank the turtle needs, is to look at what everyone else says the minimum tank size is and double it. The minimum house size for a human is about 6x8 feet, like in jail, but most people like a little more room to move around. Minimum tank sizes provide the turtle with enough room to feel like he is in jail.
