matt16 Jun 30, 2005 07:18 PM

hey i have a large 65 gallon reptarium w/ one crested gecko in it it is heavily planted and i was wondering since it just hides all day in the leaves at the bottom and only comes out at night i was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy maybe 1 or 2 normal day geckos to put in the cage w/ it to have some activity in the cage during tha day the crested gecko isnt a real big guy either just a little bigger than the day geckos.

I don't think it is a good idea.....most people on these forums aggree that it is never a good idea to mix different species.

Negative! do not mix species. Stress, disease... the reasons go on and on.

why not add a couple more crested geckos? you can probably add 3 or 4 females to that cage with out a problem. just make sure you don't have more than one adult male in there.

listen here ive mixed crested geckos with other animals b4 nothin happened. yes u want to wach out for disease but u also have to think about the temp with them. cresteds like it cool while days like it warmer it will cause stress but i like ur thinking. I mix herps all the time but not the expensive ones.

Nothing visably has to happen. It is hard to read reptiles most of the time.....how do you know if one or the other species is stressing the other out or not? It would be pretty hard. You should never mix species together....it is in the animals' best interest.

Hmm.... you reminded me of why I stopped comming to this forum. Full of ignorant people that love giving bad advice.

Well, more power to you for mixing species, but it is frowned upon by the entire hobby. Keep it to yourself.

Besides stress and all another big reason for not mixing species is because of diseases. Some animals naturally carry bacteria that are harmless to them but if an animal from a different region or niche is introduced to the bacteria there could be drastic consequences. Why, why, why put your animals through a situation that they have no control over??? For your own amusement is not a good enough reason if you truly care for your animal's well being.
