I noticed my chameleon with his mouth opened today. He was right under the basking site so I am hoping he was just doing that to cool down. My beardies do it a lot. I was wondering though just to be safe, how can u tell if he has upper respiratory infection. Thanks!

They usually breathe with an open mouth and tilt the head up like looking at the sky. There may be crackling sounds heard when they breath. You can usually see excess mucous strings in their mouth when they open it. You can sometimes see them wandering the cage at night restlessly and not getting any sleep.
Yours sounds like he was just a bit overheated from basking. Mine does that too. See if he opens his mouth often when not basking.
