Strangely Agressive Cali King

wildthing642 Jun 30, 2005 11:04 PM

Hello I have about a 10 month old Cali King Snake. He has always been a fun and nice little snake. But lately some things have been strange about him. Whenever he is placed into his feeding cage he gets really agressive, gets big, raises his head and neck, and everytime I even move strikes. Several times, like today he wouldn't even eat his food he was so upset. He struck at his pinky alot and that was it. I don't know what to do, can anyoen help me?

That isn't so strange with Cal kings.. anything goes with those guys. They can be calm one day and very pissy the next..

Anyway, try feeding in his cage, like in a plastic bowl or on paper or something. Don't believe the whole story about feeding in the cage makes for an aggressive snake. Well, maybe if he was a retic, but for a 3ft snake who cares. A hungry snake can be an aggressive feeder no matter where he is.

Cal kings do go off feed for various reasons, like most colubrids. He may be fine. Make sure the temps aren't too high and that he doesn't have mites. Other than that, let him be. If he doesn't want to eat, try next week. They don't need to eat every week.

Good luck.
