I'm looking for a type of small turtle that stays small forever. I think they are called Silver Dollar Turtles. Please help me with the name if I am wrong and tell me where they can be purchased in the Orange County, California area.

As far as I know... there is NO such thing!
I even went as far as to look it up online, and here is the best thing i could come up with:
http://www.turtlecare.net/baby.htm
and this website simply says that these turtles were called Silver Dollar Turtles because they used to cost a dollar, and they were the size of a silver dollar when sold. However, these turtes were usually Red-Eared Sliders and that they (if you look back into this forum) obviously need A LOT more care than just a simple set up.
the only information that i found wrong with that website (after i skimmed through it) is that it says adult red-eared sliders can grow up to 6-8 inches across, but I have been told differently. They can actually grown up to 12 inches across... So if you are planning on getting one of these turtles, please do your research first, get the proper set up, and also just make sure that you will have enough room to raise this turtle in the kind of environment it was meant for!
I hope this helps....

The small turtle youre speaking of has another name. Its also called a plastic turtle, Trachemys plasticinsis. They can be found in the toy section at your local walmart. They come in all sorts of non-realistic colors.
There is also the porcelain turtle Trachemys porcelainii, that stays the same size forever.
In the Home and Garden section you could find the mysterious concrete turtle, Trachemys cretensis, known to stay the same size until you hit it with the lawnmower a bunch of times.
Other small turtles are the marble turtle, Trachemys marblini, crystal turtle, Chrysemys crystalani, and pewter turtle, Sternotherus pewterini, which can be found in various gift shops around the USA.
Enjoy your new fake turtle.

Im pretty sure thats what they used to call RES back when everyone kept them in fish bowls and they stayed so small because they only lived a few months before they died...

There is no such thing as a silver dollar turtle. Mud, musk and spotted turtles only grow to 3-5 inches and are the smallest species in the pet industry.

A mans got to do what a mans got to do. A woman has to do what he can't.
Mom to:

they are correct. there is no turtle that stays that small. you're going to have to face it-- turtles grow and are messy.
