Maricopa County

I know it is hot so my chances are slim but I have a few days available to get out. I want to take my camera out and get some pictures of the locals. As I have not been on a road trip of this kind I was wondering if anyone knows where I might start in the county to get a few snapshots of local non-venomous reptiles, though anything would be nice. I am in north Phoenix near the Deer Valley airport.

Go out roadhunting at night. That is your best bet. Look for an area out of phoenix in the desert somewhere. Find a quiet road and drive it after the sunsets for a few hours. That's how you will find the most herps at this time of year.

You can see lizards and snakes active in the morning hours if you hike out in the desert. You want to be out when the temp is under 90° or so, but that temp will be exceeded by 9 am at this time of year.
