it was all going so well... and now this

boaluvr123 Jul 01, 2005 12:48 AM

well my baby cresteds were doing awesome. all 8 of them completely healthy, and eating like champs. I had a beautiful pair of red flames hatch last week, and i went to check on their cage, and i guess somehow one of them was at the top of it, and i wasnt looking on that side , and it escaped. all of the rest of the babies in there just stayed put , but i guess this one just decided to take off , as i see no other way it couldve gotten out. this is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me, and I now have a much greater respect for the elusiveness of these little ones. he was going to be a hold back as well... now i have to go through the agony of finding it dried up somewhere within the depths of my reptile room. Im just hoping by some kind of miracle , it will reappear before it dies.

Man I feel for you. I have been there.Keep the door shut. I would check the room several times after the lights have been out, Look up check on door jams, on the tops of picture frames, Behind pictues, In between anything. just remember they always go up. If that doesnt work start tearing the place apart.
Good Luck

i had a little one escape when i didn't push the drawer all the way in on the rack. i didn't even know it was out but when i went to water the plants it was sitting on a huge rubber leave plant all curled up. i would suggest putting a few fake vines/or real plants in the area if there aren't already to possibly draw it somewhere to think it is hiding.
good luck and i hope you get it back.

Do you happen to have paper towel as a substrate? If so, pull it all up and look under or in between. I thought one of mine had got out, but couldn't figure out how, and I found if in between 2 sheets of paper towel. Hope you find your little guy soon.

I had this happen. If there are any pillows or cushions on any furniture check under them. Also at night if there is a window in the room spray it with water and turn out the lights to see if he makes his way over for a drink. Also check the floor near any windows and window sills for droppings.

You might get him back. I lost three at once this way. Two I got back just fine one I found (unfortunately) mummified.

Good luck!!

Keep an eye out for it. I had one escape (left the tank open), he's a juvi, not baby, but was out for 3 WEEKS! There was no sign of him until he decided to return one night, literally climbed on the top of the tank, looked like he was just trying to go back home! I literally tore 3 rooms apart looking for him. So far, he doesn't seem any worse for wear, he's been back a little over a week now!

I was housing a few geckos in a big critter keeper a few months ago. I didn't notice there was a hole where the handles used to be on the lid, and all 5 escaped. They were out for about an hour or so by the time I checked on them again. I closed all the doors and covered the bottoms with towels and started searching. About 20 minutes later I had found them all and covered the hole. It may have been dumb luck, but I don't think they travel very far, and none of them had climbed anything. good luck! -Joe

I had this happen too... five escaped and I found four less than five feet from the cage... number five wasn't so lucky... found him about a week later about ten feet away.

Good luck,

Genevieve
