Please help looking for small monitor

casesilva Jul 01, 2005 08:10 AM

Hi,
I am looking for a small monitor that has a desert like environment and likes rock caves and branches. I have this awesome setup and nothing in it. I am trying to get all of my facts straight and make the proper decision. I know that monitors are skittish, but looking for something handlable. I have time for it daily and already have a herp vet (I also have Leopard Torts).
Any suggestions and reputable breeders would be great!!

Casey

Only they like dirt, dont use pure sand as deserts are not just sand.

I thought the Ackies needed very high dirt so they can build tunnels. If this is the case, my cage wouldn't allow it. It has sliding glass doors and that wouldn't work.

you could build a little rickety frame in the back corner to help hold shape and make a big dirt moundin the back of the cage. the frame should keep in somewhat in place and they can dig into it all they want.

It should be possible to just install a litter dam. Most setups in front access cages require one anyway, so you'll be set down the road.
