normal32 and reb back female with orange tail???

reptoman Jul 01, 2005 11:52 AM

Will you post this please. I am not aware of anyone cross breeding these successfully, from what I understand these male orangtails have been crossed with redbacks and there was no orange tail results. If you have a female with an orange tail I would find that very interesting especially if it has a red back. I am not the bible on Chucks but I have been into lizards for over 40 years and this is the first I have heard fo such a color variation. As stated before my understanding is only the male South Mountians have orange tails. I have a one egg in the incubator right now and it came from a male and female south mountian and the female did not have an orange tail. Please post a picture..........

Post a nice close-up of the vent area, including the underside of the hind legs of your redback male and this female with an orange tail. Even the experts can confuse the sexes, but this would be helpful. I would be interested in seeing your chucks, regardless of the sexes. Sounds awesome.

Here's a picture of an interesting intergrade clutch from down the block! Only difference is, at least I have a picture to prove it. LOL!

Remember this is WC animal...and I could be completely off base and it could be male...but I will try and borrow a cam and photograph top and bottom...LOL.

I'd love to see pics too, but in terms of sexing, flip your chuck over. Males will have a well developed set of femoral pores along the rear underside of their thigh. I've still got the shots of my little male's pores as they were developing so I attached it to give you an idea about what to look for. I think going by build can be a bit deceptive as body shape seems to vary between different populations.

It's not too often you see a vent picture in such fine detail. That should be very helpful in helping Norm determine the sex of his lizard.

Hey Alice, thanks for the photos.

I have 2 male carrot tails. Guess I will have my friend try an catch me a female.

The 2 male carrot tail is fat and has an elogated head like my female CB...so I thought for sure I had two. But the spurs gave him away.

Mystery solved. LOL.
