Update on my rescues

astronut1885 Jul 01, 2005 12:45 PM

I got a pair of females a few weeks back that were in rough shape. Apparently they had not been fed for weeks because the owner was scared of bugs. A breeder took them in, and I got them from him to rehabilitate. As of now, they are eating well, and are getting their color back. One of them is doing really well, and the other is coming along a little slower. The slower one had more issues, with shed skin caked all over her toes. She ended up loosing almost all her back toes. I'm going to divide the tank they're in, because I don't want the healthier one to start hogging the food, because she can hunt better. Overall, though, I think they're going to pull out ok. I'll put some pics in my album when I get a chance.

Thats pretty neat. I wish I was older so I could get more leos and breed them, but im only 15 and i dont think my mom would let me. i cant wait till i get to do all of this stuff.

It's all in how you sell it to your mom. "Mom, you want me to do well in school right? Well, I could do a really cool science project on genetics. All I need is some leopard geckos..."

lol
i dont think she will fall for that. she wont even touch my gecko shes so scared of it, but yet she loves to watch it eat and stuff. its kinda crazy.

lol i bet she would be more interested in the breeding and educational value of learning then you think

Agreed. Plus if you talk to your teacher first you can say: "Hey mom me and were talking and he/she said I could get mad extra credit if I did an extra project. We talked about it and decided breeding geckos would be cool. All I would need is some more leopard geckos..."

that would b pretty sweet.

Sorry, we kind of hijacked your post. Congratulations on the great work you are doing with the two geckos. They are very lucky to have you!

Well, both are still gaining weight, but they're not with me any more. My little cousin has been wanting a leo for a while, and he has helped me care for mine at my house. Since one of the two has a tail kink, I don't want to breed her. The other is too young to go in with my adults. I let him take them home, and he's setting them up in a nice 20 long. His dad is going to make sure they are well cared for, and I will be getting regular updates to make sure they are ok. I know he can give them a loving home as two great pets. I was sad to see them go, but they didn't fit into my plans. I know they'll be safe and happy where they are, and I can't wait to see them nice and fat.
