Our Trinket Snake (Elaphe helena)

khara Jul 01, 2005 01:39 PM

Greetings. =) This is our new year old Trinket snake, Zhai. He's so gentle and loves to be handled. Trinkets are so great I'm surprised I don't hear more about them. I had a hard time finding info on humidity levels. I've been keeping his tank around 65%. Is that a good humidity level?

What a beautiful trinket! How old is he? My not quite a year old female, Jem, is also a delight. Yours appears larger than mine. I agree with you that more people should consider keeping this species. Docile, inquisitive, good eaters, easy to handle--what's not to like? She is the only snake in my collection that I don't hesitate about reaching right inside of her hidebox to get her out.

As for humidity, 65% seems about right. Since I live in an area of higher humidity, I merely mist the cage once per day from when she is in blue until she sheds. If not, as happened once, she had a bad shed.

Thanks for sharing & posting a pic--I'll try to post a pic of mine soon!

regards,
althea

Thanks! Zhai is one year old. I'd love to see pics of Jem. =) Trinkets just seem so much more laid back and social. We also have a Yellow Rat Snake. He loves being held too but tries to get away to go on some grand adventure. The last was him tangling himself in the kitchen cabinet handles. LOL! Our Trinket is more content to climb all over us. =)
