leopard gecko hunting strategies

Xelda Jul 14, 2003 10:57 PM

My adult male leopard gecko has some cute hunting techniques. If a cricket is right in front of him and he's staring right at it but it's not moving, he sort of barks at it to startle the cricket. So when it moves, that's when he strikes. But here's another thing. Just before he's about to strike, he rattles his tail.
I think it's really amusing, but even for all his cute habits, he's no match for the hunting prowess of the female. She tends to hide and then snaps at the unuspecting cricket that's looking for a place to hide.
Is this typical for gecko behavior?

yep I had a female that was a tail rattler. My male kinda stalks them like a cat unless he is real hungry then it is kinda a free for all.

I've never seen a Gecko bark at their food. Makes sense though.

My male and female when they were younger both used to do the tail thing but they seem to have stopped doing that now. I do have a new hatchling (Hatched last night) so I'm hoping she will do the tail thing again as I find it so cute to watch.
