Is The Boaphile Plastics Company Currently A Viable Entity...?

Daniele Jul 01, 2005 03:44 PM

I need a quality cage for a 2004' albino Nelsoni, and there are several good choices as far as reptile accomodations are concerned...

I've contacted two other firms, but I have my heart set on a 122D cage made by this company. I sent two e-mails, and left a message on the phone number listed on their site, but so far I've not been contacted... Is the company still in business, and if so, is there a customer service number I can call?

Thanks for your help!

Those cages are really designed for boids. Very little ventilation, very dark inside. You can remedy those things. I'm just saying why get something that is overkill..

For a milksnake, a glass tank or Visionarium is all you need. Also, check out www.herpcages.com and www.precisioncaging.com. Those cages are great for colubrids IMO.

(The Boaphile cage will work, but I think it isn't geared towards a thin, lively colubrid like a milksnake. My opinion anyway.)

"Sweaterboxes are boring"

Thanks for your input, Mark! I wasn't aware that there are so many makers of cages out there... I only need one cage for an Albino Nelsoni, so I am contacting all of the companies, and finding out as much as I can about each terrarium.

I like the style of the Baophile cage, especially the losenge shaped door frame, and their hardware. They also look well made.

I had a small Vision cage, and one day I found a snake (also an Albino Nelsoni) helfway out of the cage, wedged between the glass door, so Vision is definitely out of the question, unless the gap between the glass doors has been rectified.

I'm also considering a custom made cage, so I can get a single sliding glass panel or sliding glass doors instead of a hinged plastic door.. In any event, I would be using an under the tank heater connected to a rheostat, and a small fluorescent light for viewing.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

All of those cages as well as cages like Animal Plastics are good. I think if you found your nelsons slipping through the gap it's just a matter your snake being too small for that kind of cage. Most folks(and you don't have to) use shoeboxes and sweater boxes for small milks because they are more easily monitored for feeding/cleaning and general health. Their is a gap around the front glass on the Boaphiles for ventilation, you might have the same problem until your snake grows some more. Good luck.

That is another reason why I like Herpcages.com for colubrids - you can put the squirreliest of small milksnakes in those cages with no escapes.

I like Boaphiles and other similar cages for.. well, boas (and pythons and perhaps larger colubrids).

Mark, I don't know if the black interior would best be avoided... I'd also be happy with a white or gray terrarium.

It's definitely food for thought now. I thought it would be great for the albino Nelsoni contrast, but what's best for the animal should take precedent. I'd appreciate more debate on this... The terrarium would be kept in a well lit room, and a small fluorescentfixture would be installed in the cage for vireoing purposes.

Thanks again for your input.

herpcages and cagecrafters are good quality and honest before if your looking into Precision email me first as board rules limit things.

If a co doesnt get back to you and you have to chase them to place an order ask yourself if you want to deal with them.
herpcages and cagcrafters I have found very reputable

Thanks, Luis... Cage Crafters makes some really nice looking terrariums! Jeff at Boaphile did get back to me, by the way, and I'm now thinking over my choice of cage. Decisions, decisions!
