it's an african clawed frog, acf for short, goldfish aren't good for them in the long run,I feed mine shrimp and earthworms,he's got a few neon tetras in the tank with him,but they'll keep "pets" sometimes and keep them to chase around before finally eating them, crix are fine too,but mine's picky about them sometimes

This frog as stated is an african clawed frog. It belongs to the Xenopus family. A great website on them is www.pipidae.org.
It has many, many members devoted to this family of frogs and is a great place to learn about them specifically. Here is a long lost south american cousin of your brother's frog. Pipa pipa, or the surinam toad.

ps, Hockey Puck? That's a great name! I'm gonna name my next herp Slapshot!

He's an african clawed frog. He needs 7 to 10 gallons of water to himself. They LOVE company, so get another and he'll be happy with you, as long as the tank is at least 15-20 ga for both. If there's a small projection between his/her legs, it's a she, not a he. They can live 15-20 years in captivity. Substrate needs to be either nothing, or gravel too big to swallow. Feed floating reptile sticks, bloodworms, feeder guppies, crickets, etc. He wasn't "beating up" the goldfish, he was trying to eat it.
