baby leapard geckos

twilight185 Jul 01, 2005 06:39 PM

today one of my babies hatched I am a first time mom and I need to know:

how can I tell if the last egg is ok? The baby seems to be having a hard time breaking out. I think!

How long do I wait to feed them I have been told " after their frist shedding, about a week" this seems like such a long time

can I feed meal worms first or does it have to be crickets?

can they have sand has a substrate?
I am so afraid I am going to mess up Please any hints will be welcome! Thank You.

I have never bred lizards, so I will only answer with what I know

After hatching baby herps can go a while without food (in general) while using the energy stores obtained from the yolk sack. I would suggest asking in the leopard gecko forum for average times before feeding neonates.

When you do start feeding, you can use the same bugs as for an adult, but sized appropriately for a neonate. Unless you breed your own, small mealworms may be difficult to find. A variety is still beneficial, as is gutloading and calcium dusting.

Congradulations, and have fun with your lizards!
Ian
